RHCP’s Flea Solo EP ‘Helen Burns’ Due out February

Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea has announced that his first solo EP Helen Burns will be released on Tuesday, February 19 via Smack Face Records. The EP, which Flea has described as ‘Trippy Freakout’ was originally recorded in 2007.

Mostly instrutmental, Helen Burns was recorded with the help of RHCP drum technician and keyboard player Chris Warren, legendary rock ‘n’ roller Patti Smith, who co-wrote the EP’s title track, longstanding RHCP dummer Chad Smith and original RHCP drummer Jack Irons.

The title ‘Helen Burns’ comes from a character from 1847 novel Jane Eyre. As Flea explains, the character’s ideals are something that have long inspired the musician.

“The beauty of Helen Burns is a quality I look for in all human beings. Burns is always someone who is present with me and whose highest ideals resonate in the deepest experiences of my life,” explained Flea.

When Flea first made mention of his solo EP back in July 2012, he noted that all proceeds the Helen Burns EP will go towards the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, which Flea founded in 2001. The downloadable version of the EP will be available at any price you want to pay and will be a donation to the Silverlake Conservatory of Music.
