For Today Guitarist Quits After Homophobic Tweets, Enrols In Bible College

A day is a long time in the music industry.

Just hours after we reported about For Today guitarist Mike Reynolds’ controversial tweets about homosexuality and religion – Blabbermouth is reporting that he’s quit the band, effective immediately.

And, the guitarist is apparently leaving the band to enrol in Bible College with his wife, and help out with missions in the Middle East.

The tweets – which led to Enter Shakiri frontman Rou Reynoldscondemning his words in a lengthy blog post – have led to a siginificant backlash against the Christian hardcore band, who posted the following group statement.

“Mike Reynolds is no longer a part of For Today. He has decided that now is the time for he and his wife to put their plans in motion to enroll in Bible college, and to begin working toward full-time missions work in the Middle East.”

“Mike will be replaced by longtime friend of the band, and former In The Midst Of Lions guitar player, Sam Penner, who will be appearing with the band as they headline their upcoming Fight The Silence tour.”

In addition, frontman Mattie Montgomery has posted a personal video apologising to any fans hurt and angered by Reynolds’ comments… and invited them to call him on his personal phone number to express their concerns. You can watch the video at the bottom of the page.

Reynolds took to Twitter with his controversial comments after Pastor Louie Giglio’s withdrew from President Barack Obama’s upcoming second-term inauguration ceremony. Giglio quit after reports he delivered an anti-gay sermon in the 1990s.
