Happy Mondays Announce Australian Tour May 2013 With Original Lineup

One of Madchester’s most iconic acts the Happy Mondays will be visiting our shores in May for the first time with the definitive original lineup that includes Shaun Ryder on lead vocals, his brother Paul Ryder on bass, lead guitarist Mark Day, drummer Gary Whelan, and of course Mark “Bez” Berry upping the vibes with his legendary dance moves.

Taking parts of the emerging acid house scene of the late 80s early 90s and injecting an infectious indie rock sound with their classic debut Squirrel And G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out) in 1987 and the albums that followed, 1988′s Bummed and then Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches in 1990, they easily became an influential band on the English music scene to follow.

In 2012 Shaun Ryder announced that the original Happy Mondays lineup would be reuniting again, and a sold-out UK tour quickly followed. 2012 saw the release of Double Double Good and more sold-out shows. The band recently reconvened in the studio for the first new album with the original lineup in 20 years, which is due for release in 2013.

UPDATE: 25/03/2013

Peter Hook (New Order, Joy Division) and Underground Lovers have been announced as the special guests for the upcoming Happy Mondays Australian tour this May.

Hook, as many of you will know, left New Order in 2007 and has since taken legal action against his former band for reforming and touring under the banner of New Order without Hook. He has also penned a memoir titled Unknown Pleasures – Inside Joy Division, which came out in October of last year.

Hook was meant to tour Australia last year with his band The Light but was forced to cancel the tour due to circumstances beyond their control.

Underground Lovers will be playing one show on the tour, before their hometown of Melbourne. The indie rock outfit regrouped in 2009 after going on indefinite hiatus in 2002.
