Triple j’s Hottest 100 2012 is no longer a gambling man’s game, with all bets now closed. As reported by News.com.au, multiple bookmakers, including gambling magnate Tom Waterhouse, have closed down betting uncharacteristically early. In previous years the public could place bets right up until the number one song was revealed.
Although Sportsbet said it closed betting on Sunday, January 20 to coincide with the closing of voting, speculation has arisen that many bookmakers have stopped taking Hottest 100 bets due to the prediction made public yesterday by The Warmest 100.
Sportsbet placed Thrift Shop by Macklemore as the favourite to take out the top spot, a prediction backed by the social media data compiled by The Warmest 100 creator Nick Drewe.
Although betting for the most part may have stopped on the results of the Hottest 100 itself, Sportbet is now offering odds on whether triple j will cease its now-decoded social media system for the Hottest 100. A bet of ‘no’ pays $3.00 while the safe bet is on ‘yes’ at $1.33.
