J.T. Achieves New PB, Smashes US Airplay Record

It’s all coming up Timberlake, as it would seem. His first single in 6 years has not only smashed the previous record for digital sales, set by the man himself, but also set a new airplay record, charting higher than any other debut track in history.

That’s not even the end of it – on top of all that, the Jay-Z duet Suit & Tie saw J.T. score the biggest airplay increase and audience increase for a solo artist ever, according to MTV. The track landed at #14 on the highly worshipped Billboard Top 40 Airplay charts.

Even though Timberlake dropped the track seemingly out of nowhere, it appears no hype and/or buzz was required to make it an instant hit. According to his record label, the track hit #1 on the iTunes singles chart in 31 different countries and landed in the Top 10 in 54 countries.

What’s more, the track shifted 300,000-plus units in its first week, smashing the previous record set by his own SexyBack 6 years ago, which capped 250,000.

The man certainly knows how to resurge, and he’s still not done. We can expect a full album of new material, titled The 20/20 Experience, in the near future.
