When Brisbane-based online marketer Nick Drewe announced to the country that he had predicted triple j’s hottest 100, he pricked up the ears of a lot of people. The famous Hottest 100 betting poles were called off, and you can imagine how frustrated the station got. But it looks as though everyone can chill.
Warm would perhaps be a bit of an overstatement, something more like ‘room temperature’ would be more appropriate. Many of Drewe’s predictions landed within a 10 to 15 spot range of where he had placed them, but some were nowhere near. However, as we go towards the single digits, things start to look more in his favour. That said, any avid listener of triple j would be able to piece together that list.
To his credit, 4 in a row was pretty cool, with Flume, Calvin Harris, The Rubens and Tame Impala all scoring equally on both lists. And a hat trick for top 3? Well, I’ll give him that. However, 8 out of 100 isn’t such an impressive hit rate.
It may have been a bit rash that betting agencies stopped taking bets after the predictions were made live, and it doesn’t look like the suspense of next year’s list will be ruined by the same spoiler alert.
