Ron Reyes’s Reunited Black Flag Finishing New Album

Yesterday Music Feeds reported that not one but two Black Flag lineups have reformed to tour during 2013. One lineup goes simply by the name of Flag and is comprised of Bill Stevenson on the drums, bassist Chuck Dukowski, Descendents guitarist Stephen Egerton and former Black Flag frontman Keith Morris, who sung in the band from 1976 to 1979.

The other lineup is actually called (wait for it) Black Flag and is made up of singer Ron Reyes and Black Flag founder/guitarist Greg Ginn. It’s this second lineup under the banner of Black Flag that are closing in on releasing a new album.

As reported by Pitchfork, Reyes and Ginn’s Black Flag announced via press release that Black Flag are “putting finishing touches on a new album,” set for release in 2013. Despite initial reports that Roberto “ROBO” Valverde would be on the drums, Pitchfork state that Gregory Moore from Ginn’s side project Gone will play on the album.

Bass duties on the upcoming record will be handled by Ginn under the name of Dale Nixon, a pseudonym Ginn used when recording bass on Black Flag’s 1984 album My War.

This version of Black Flag is set to tour the US later this year and headline festivals such as Hevy Fest, Germany’s Ruhrpott Rodeo and the Muddy Roots Music Festival in Tennessee.
