‘World Of Warcraft’ Film To Be Directed By David Bowie’s Son

The massive online fantasy role-playing game World Of Warcraft is set to make the jump from laptop screen to the big screen in the near future, and what’s more impressive is the high-budget film will be directed by David Bowie‘s son Duncan Jones (formerly known as Zowie Bowie *lol*).

The film is being ushered in by Legendary Studios, which is in close cahoots with powerhouse Warner Bros, and will aim to be a true live-action adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment‘s video game universe, that which has ruined oh-so-many lives. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner, who both worked on the production of the game, will be working alongside studio execs Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni to produce the film.

The script, written by Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond), is presumably locked up in a safe deep underground somewhere, but we are assured it is, in fact, real. Warner have suggested the film will begin production in the American fall of this year, for release in 2015. This will pit it against that year’s other big releases The Avengers 2 and Star Wars VII.

Jones was at the helm for the 2011 so-so film Source Code, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal and cost about $35 million to make – a massive increase from his low-budget directorial debut, 2009’s Moon (apparently a bit of a hidden gem for those interested in low-key sci-fi dramas). Moon only cost about $1 million but the WOW budget blows them both out of the water at a cool $100 mil.
