Former NIN Drummer Slams Carly Rae Jepsen Mash-up

Having played with the band from 1989 to 1997, former Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna was a key feature when the band released their 1990 track Head Like a Hole. Recently, the interwebs produced a mash-up of the track with Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe and Vrenna isn’t too pleased.

The mash-up has recently gone viral, hitting more than 1 million views on YouTube and receiving critical acclaim from the LA Times, who labelled the tune ‘genius’. But Vrenna used some very different words to describe it.

Speaking to TMZ, he stated, “honestly I find the whole thing silly and partly offensive … I find it kind of insulting. It has trivialised something we’ve done. I am proud of what we’ve done and to take art, just to be a joke, I don’t have any respect for it.”

His beef doesn’t lie with Jespen directly – bless her cotton socks, she wouldn’t have been able to do this – but rather with a third party who somewhere, somehow, at some point realised that he, or she could pull it off.
