Russell Morris Named Ambassador Of Record Store Day Australia 2013

The local version of the annual Record Store Day initiative will be fronted by Russell Morris.

Morris – best known for his hit The Real Thing – was announced yesterday as the ambassador for Record Store Day Australia 2013, which takes place across the country on 20th April.

Run by the Australian Music Retailers Association, Record Store Day sees music stores across the country host live music and a variety of special promotions in store to encourage punters back into the shops to buy physical albums and old records.

Morris recently released his latest album Sharkmouth, which has perched itself in the bottom half of the ARIA Top 20 charts for the past month.

Ambition Entertainment’s Robert Rigby – who released the album on his label Fanfare – attributed the album’s chart success to the availability and support for the album in local record stores.

“Sharkmouth is a fantastic truly Australian release, and thanks to record stores everywhere we are selling loads of albums,” he said.

A number of stores have registered to be part of Record Store Day Australia 2013, with a series of promotions and special events to be gradually added to the official website leading up to the event on 20th April.
