Kanye West Sued For Copyright Infringement Over ‘Gold Digger’ Sample

Kanye West may be subject to some gold digging, funnily enough, over his 2005 single Gold Digger as the rapper is being sued for millions for allegedly illegally sampling 1974 song Bumpin’ Bus Stop.

Bumpin’ Bus Stop was originally recorded by David Pryor from the band Thunder & Lightning. Passing in 2006, Pyror’s children Trena Steward and Lorenzo Pryor currently own the copyright to Bumpin’ Bus Stop and are seeking millions in damages for West using part of their father’s song in his track Gold Digger.

Along with West, record labels Roc-a-Fella Records, Bad Boy Records, The Island Def Jam Music Group, Activision, Stones Throw Records, Bomb Hip-Hop Records, Autumn Games and Caroline Distribution are also named in the lawsuit. The lawsuit claims that these record labels, along with West, have been involved in an “illegal copyright infringement scheme and criminal enterprise involving the unauthorized, willful sampling of plaintiffs original copyrighted music on a massive scale” for 15 years.
