Live It Up Promoters To Bring New Music Festival To Sydney In September

As the festival market once again begins to rise, a promoter has stepped forth, announcing a new music festival to take place in Sydney’s CBD this coming September. From the minds who brought Live It Up Festival to Brissy, Sydney Folk Festival will be a family friendly 1-day event modeled around Brisbane’s Red Deer Festival.

Speaking to TheMusic.com.au, promoter Zanda Strofield seems fairly stoked on the announcement, revealing that Big Bear Entertainment have just locked the inaugural Sydney Folk Festival in:

“It’s something that I’m really excited about. I was involved with Brisbane’s Red Deer Music Festival last year and we know that there’s a huge demand there for discerning music listeners.”

Whilst folk festivals are nothing new to Australia and Bluesfest has been experiencing overwhelming success for years, Strofield aims to bring the idea to the middle of a busy city, effectively giving city folk “the opportunity to take a one-day holiday out of their busy lives to get back to their roots, soak in some amazing music, food and a vibe that we’re confident is going to be really

special”.

According to Strofield, Sydney seemed like the obvious choice:

“Sydney, I think, is the kind of city that could do with an oasis in the calendar to give people a chance to chill out. The idea of something right in the centre of the city, but with a folk vibe will resonate with people there. Sydney loves its food, its music and its culture and I don’t think it gets enough credit for that.”

Sydney Folk Festival aims to boast a top-notch line-up, which could be announced as soon as May. The rising promoter seems confident that neither Sydney Folk Festival nor its sister event will add their bones to the pile:

“If you try to find a niche and focus on something that nobody else is doing rather than trying to cut other people’s throats, it’s a pretty pleasant space to work in I find.”

As a residents of Sydney, we very much hope this comes to fruition. Stay tuned for updates as they come.
