Diplo To Produce New Diplo-Centric Feature Film (Featuring Music From Diplo)

Diplo is to be the center of a new movie based around the ever increasing spectacle that is electronic dance music. 20th Century Fox have obtained a pitch for a yet-to-be titled feature film that will follow 3 teens attempting to gain access to Diplo’s music festival (which doesn’t actually exist).

Trevor Engelson (All About Steve), of production and management company Underground, is the film’s producer while Noah Rothman is on as executive producer along with Diplo himself and the DJs business partner Kevin Kusatsu.

Andy Jones (The Kids In The Hall) and Adam Weinstock are handling writer duties. Deadline reports the film is being pitched as Project X (2012) meets 8 Mile (2002) but at Feeds we think the concept sounds like a mix of Detroit Rock City (1999) and The Wizard (1989).

Earlier in the year an EDM reality TV show with working title of Superstar DJ was heavily criticised by EDM acts such Deadmau5 and Mat Zo for reducing the culture to the lows of reality television. We’ll have to wait and see if this Diplo inspired film earns the same amount of scrutiny.
