Flavor Flav To Stand Trial On Felony Assault Charges, Wears His Best Clock To Court

Public Enemy hype-man Flavor Flav will stand trial to face charges of child endangerment and assault with a weapon. As reported by USA Today, the rapper – real name William Jonathan Drayton Jr. – could serve up to 12 years in prison if found guilty of the 2 felonies.

A judge deemed there was enough evidence to go to trial during a hearing last week in Las Vegas Justice Court. Drayton’s long-time partner’s 17-year-old son, who Drayton allegedly threatened to kill while holding a knife, testified during the hearing.

While on the stand the teen identified Drayton as “the man wearing a clock around his neck” and informed the court that Drayton pursued him to a bedroom and stabbed a knife through the door during an argument that occurred in a Las Vegas house 17th October, 2012.

The 17-year-old juvenile said he was attempting to defend his mother from Drayton when the 54-year-old performer pushed him. The son pushed him back and managed to seize Drayton in a headlock in the kitchen.

Drayton’s defence attorney Tony Abbatangelo argued that his client may have been acting in self-defence when he allegedly armed himself with a butcher knife, a steak knife and a pizza cutter. The 17-year-old claims that Drayton was standing only 2 feet away when he then threatened to kill the teenager.

Justice of the Peace Melanie Andress-Tobiasson scheduled an arraignment for 18th April, where Drayton is expected to plead not guilty.
