Me First And The Gimme Gimmes To Record First Album In 7 Years At Foo Fighters Studio

There’s supergroups and then there’s supergroups, but for fans of ’90s skater punk perhaps never a greater line-up has been assembled than Me First And The Gimme Gimmes. Made up of Fat Mike (NOFX), Spike (Swingin’ Utters), Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters), Joey Cape and Dave Raun (both of Lagwagon), it’s the stuff palm-muted power chord wet dreams are made of.

Now it looks like the band of punk rock vets are ready to join forces once again with Shiflett and Raun each posting that the Gimmes were back in the studio. Shiflett took to Facebook, posting a picture of Spike “getting in the zone” for the new record.

However, it’s Raun’s Twitter post that has proven the most intriguing. The post notes that the Gimmes are recording at Foo Fighters’ Studio 606. The accompanying picture shows a drum kit belonging to Them Crooked Vultures, the supergroup comprised of Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) and Josh Homme (QOTSA).

Obviously the connection between the Foos and the Gimmes is Shiflett, but will we see the workaholic Grohl make a guest appearance on the Gimmes’ new album? Maybe. Maybe not. Who’s to say? We are! But we won’t. Because we don’t know.

No word yet as to what theme the Gimmes’ will cover this time around. The band’s last release was Go Down Under and Sing In Japanese both in 2011. Their last proper album of original covers – if you know what I mean – was 2006’s country and western themed Love Their Country.
