Are Alt-J The Splendour In The Grass Mystery Band?

Splendour In The Grass has announced its 2013 lineup but among acts such as Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean and The National there still remains one unnamed mystery band. Or, to be more precise, ‘Mystery B∆nd’, as listed in the official lineup announcement for Sunday.

Obviously the ‘∆’ is a clue, and since the masters of puzzles, Empire Of The Sun, are already on the bill, we’re left to wonder as to who this mystery b∆nd may be. Some have speculated that when unveiled the unknown act will prove to be Daft Punk. Sure, it’s possible, what with that recurring pyramid theme of theirs. It’s equally possible we’ll see the triangle-shaped spaceship from 1979 arcade game Asteroids onstage in Byron Bay this July.

A far more likely outcome will be the return of English indie outfit Alt-J. After all, the band’s name is actually the keyboard shortcut for a triangle… ∆. See? I’m doing it right now! Adding more fuel to the fire are the dates for Alt-J’s second Australian tour for 2013, which just so happen to be right around Splendour time.

Oh, sure, the band will be in Perth on Saturday, 27th but that still leaves Friday and Sunday for Alt-J to make an appearance. So you can take your guesses but Feeds have it on good authority that Alt-J will be heading down for Splendour 2013.

Pre-sale tickets for Splendour go on sale this Friday, with general release – sure to sell out on the day – are on sale 2nd May.
