Vampire Weekend Play New Song ‘Obvious Bicycle’ At NYC Gig

We’ve been monitoring the teaser vids featuring Steve Buscemi for the last couple of weeks, and Vampire Weekend finally took to the stage this weekend for their Amex Unstaged live stream, revealing a new tune in the process. Directed by Buscemi, who was recently revealed to be a distant relative of VW bass master Chris Baio, the gig and live stream took place at New York’s Roseland Ballroom.

Obvious Bicycle continues in a similar vein to previously unveiled track Everlasting Arms, down tempo with slyly optimistic lyrics and fairly sparse instrumentation, with this track featuring a lovely choral effect that builds throughout. The new tune doesn’t sound like single material, more likely a deep cut from forthcoming album Modern Vampires Of The City. Also included below is another tune from the Roseland gig, a new quality recording of Everlasting Arms, which Vampire Weekend debuted in Sydney earlier this year.

Both of the below tracks, as well as previously revealed singles Diane Young and Step, can be found on Vampire Weekend’s highly anticipated third studio album Modern Vampires Of The City, which will be released in Australia this Friday, 3rd May.
