The Avalanches Preview New Contribution To ‘King Kong’ Musical Soundtrack

A preview of what we can expect from the soundtrack from the upcoming King Kong musical has proven to be riveting listening – a new clip features, among a host of other huge names, a sneak peek of one particular song prepared by none other than The Avalanches.

The band haven’t composed their own original song for the score, but have rather contributed their rendition of the iconic Get Happy, a track previously made famous by Judy Garland but written and composed by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler. If you scroll through to the 1:58 mark, you’ll be able to hear what we’re talking about.

You’ll also note that the band have contributed their version of Dies Irae (“The Wrath Of God”). While you might not be instantly familiar with the title, check out the performance in the second video below then try and imagine an Avalanches twist on the hard-hitting second section from Verdi’s Requiem. Sounds good in your head, right?

The elusive Australian crew find themselves in good company on the musical’s official soundtrack, with Justice and Massive Attack among those invited to contribute. Massive Attack’s producer Marius deVries also features heavily, acting as composer for the score.

The musical will debut right here in our very own Melbourne later on in the year.
