Deftones Consider Releasing Shelved ‘Eros’ Album In Memory Of Chi Cheng

Though it hasn’t been confirmed, we can be sure that the soon-to-be Down Under outfit Deftones are entertaining the idea of releasing their shelved 2008 album Eros. The record, which never saw the light of day, would be released in honour of the band’s former bassist, Chi Cheng, who recently passed away.

Put on the backburner in favour of another album to feature their new bassist Sergio Vega, Eros never quite made it to completion, but according to vocalist Chino Moreno it could soon happen. At the Revolver Golden God Awards Moreno noted, “I think [the chances of that happening are] more so now probably than ever. I actually went back and listened to some of it recently… I don’t know when [we’ll release it]…but I feel it’s a little more appropriate now for us to think about that [than it has been] in the last few years.”

Work began on the album back in 2008 and seemed to be progressing at a healthy rate. The band had posted 5 studio albums and Moreno was half way through vocals on the album but production halted after Cheng was involved in a car crash putting the bassist in a coma that would eventually result in his passing.

Deftones Australian tour dates kick off tomorrow in Brisbane.
