Eric Avery Quits Nine Inch Nails After Being “Overwhelmed” By Touring Commitments

Nine Inch Nails bassist Eric Avery has announced via Facebook today that he will be stepping down from his role in the band. Having only just returned from an extensive tour with Garbage and with an ever-growing Nine Inch Nails tour approaching, Avery has decided to tap out, and focus on other areas of his life.

The bassist is clearly feeling the weight of the situation, explaining to fans that “it’s been a tough call and I don’t know if it’s the right one, but I really want to focus on my musical life here in LA, on film work in particular.” The band is making a big return to the live stage, with shows announced all over the place with more and more apparently being added. On account of this Avery “just got overwhelmed”.

There seems to be no hard feelings on the departure, with Avery speaking fondly of frontman Trent Reznor. Reznor hasn’t commented on the situation yet and the replacement is still unknown but all is sure to be revealed soon. Avery could piece together a pretty impressive resume now, though, with his work in Garbage, NIN and, of course, being a founding member of Jane’s Addiction.

“its with very mixed emotions i tell you all that im pulling out of NIN. i know. its been a tough call and i don’t know if its the right one. but i really want to focus on my musical life here in la, on film work in particular. as the tour dates kept growing… i just got overwhelmed. i just got home from a year of heavy travel with garbage, the idea of leaving town for another year and a half, and with all the intensity that nails demands… fortunately my friend Trent understands all this and appreciated my pulling the plug now instead of deep into 2013 and 14. go get em gentlemen.”
