Well, it ain’t new music from Hot Chip but it ain’t too far from it either – vocalist, percussionist and synth-wizard Joe Goddard has dropped a new 8 minute solo track, She Burns, that wouldn’t be entirely out of place on a record from his regular gig.
Goddard has put all of his signature quirk and charm into this electro dance number, which builds up slowly and burns strong, but the real treat here is the slinky, soulful vocals from singer-songwriter Mara Carlyle. This could have been a strange pairing, considering Carlyle is better known in her native UK for her use of ukelele and musical saw, but she sounds surprisingly right at home here amongst the lasers and house beat.
She Burns will be released on Goddard’s Taking Over EP, the follow-up to his 2011 EP Gabriel, due out later this year. Both the single and its cover art can be found below.
