Nine Inch Nails have finished their first studio album in 5 years and are set to release the currently untitled record in 2013. The news comes from NIN head honcho Trent Reznor, who revealed in a press release he has been secretly working on the album for a year:
“I’ve been less than honest about what I’ve really been up to lately. For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross (How To Destroy Angels) and Alan Moulder (producer) on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great.
“This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HTDA and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place. Here we go!”
Although there is no official release date the new NIN will be come out via Columbia Records, which in March released Welcome Oblivion, the debut album of Reznor’s other project How To Destroy Angels.
Earlier in the year Reznor announced that he had reassembled Nine Inch Nails, albeit with a mostly new lineup.
The new NIN consisted of Eric Avery (Jane’s Addiction, Garbage), Adrian Belew (King Crimson), Alessandro Cortini (NIN), Josh Eustis and Ilan Rubin (Paramore, NIN), although Avery has already left the band to focus on other creative endeavours.
Following the split with Avery it was announced that former Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck had rejoined the band.
