Empire Of The Sun Play ‘Ice On The Dune’: Live Stream From The Sydney Opera House

Empire of the Sun are set to drop their second album, Ice On The Dune, in just two weeks’ time but, gracious as the Emperor is, the band are streaming a live performance from the Sydney Opera House via YouTube as part of Vivid Sydney tonight, previewing tracks from the album, and you can watch all the action right here from 8:50pm AEST!

Speaking of the opportunity to play at the Opera House, frontman Luke Steele says, “It really is a dream come true to play at such a prestigious, iconic, world-famous venue as the Opera House,” acknowledging that reaching the vast audiences provided by live-streaming such a performance is “for an artist, a real privilege”.

The Empire of the Sun concept is certainly one that lends itself to such a large stage. Steele says that the writing of each album starts with writing a narrative for the two main characters of the EOTS story, the Emperor and the Prophet, represented by Steele and bandmate Nick Littlemore. Using that narrative, they can then work on “turning that screenplay into a live performance, which is quite mind-bending”.

He describes the new album as “otherworldly, electrical… a glimpse into another world” and first single Alive definitely seems to take a confident step away from the indie arena of Steele’s former project The Sleepy Jackson towards more dancefloor-friendly elements brought by Littlemore.

An Empire show is a lush, highly visual spectacle, and certainly something to make time for – especially when it’s so easy, and FREE! Check out the show and be part of Vivid LIVE tonight from 8:50pm AEST!
