Sharon Jones Diagnosed With Cancer, Cancels Tour And Album Release

Soul wonders Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings have been forced to indefinitely postpone their upcoming tour and cancel their latest album release following frontwoman Jones’ diagnosis of stage-1 bile duct cancer.

The vocalist behind hits like 100 Days, 100 Nights needs immediate surgery and will require a rather lengthy convalescence, as the procedure has been described as “invasive and complex”. However, the 57-year-old is expected to make a full recovery as the disease has been discovered early and has not spread.

Jones took to her official website to let fans know she’s “down but not out”:

“Over the last few weeks I haven’t felt good and I didn’t know what was going on. We sadly had to cancel shows while I went through a series of tests and short hospital stays.

“We just found out that I have a stage-one tumor on my bile duct. Luckily we caught it really early and fast and the doctors say it’s operable and curable! I will be having surgery very soon and will have to rest and recover.

“I’ll be staying in touch and keeping my fans and friends updated on my progress. I’m looking forward to getting back on the road to give the people what they want!”

The Dap-Kings, known for their enthusiastic ’60s and ’70s soul sound, were scheduled to release their sixth studio album Give The People What They Want on 6th August and had already commenced their North American tour.

Music Feeds wishes Jones a speedy recovery.
