Joy Division’s classic track Love Will Tear Us Apart is one of the pinnacles of the post-punk era, a musical constant appearing in countless count downs, mix-tapes and drunk nights out.
Now the song has take on a new and bizarre form as the basis for an in-browser video game adaptation released by European developer Mighty Box Games. Will Love Tear Us Apart? is described as a:
“game about relationships on the brink of breaking up. It is inspired by Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart and follows the song in delivering a dark and frustrating perspective on love. Each verse in the song is represented by a level in the game.”
Creator/writer Gordon Calleja has describes that he wanted to:
“crea[te] interesting tensions in the design process, resulting in scenarios which deliver the desired thematic experience whilst going against what is conventionally considered good game design.”
