There’s plenty of stuff to make you feel uncomfortable in Die Antwoord’s visual stimulus for their current single Cookie Thumper. But fortunately beneath the creepy, toothless drug dealer, Yo-Landi Vi$$er urinating in a hallway and the overwhelming sense of pedophilia, there’s a thumper of a track to get you though it all.
That said, it’s never an easy gig trying to interpret what Die Antwoord are trying to say, for all we know this could be some sweeping statement about the socioeconomic impact of drugs on South African youths. But until that’s confirmed, we’re going to go with the whole creepy, toothless drug dealer angle and by the sounds of things in the Twittersphere that’s the same angle the majority of listeners have gone with also.
After depicting Yolandi in a schoolgirl outfit buying weed of a 26s and 27s gangsta, fresh out of the joint, the clip soon becomes a tribute to said gangsta with Yo-Landi dancing around him, getting high and wearing almost nothing. But it’s the final moments, given the premise of her being a teenager, that are sure to shock the most.
It’s unsure whether the track will be a feature of the bands supposed new album Donker Mag, which has a guestimated release date of February 2014. Their commitments to acting as themselves in Neil Blomkamp’s new sci-fi comedy hopefully aren’t hindering the process. Cookie Thumper as a single has only been around since yesterday so the track is super fresh. Regardless, we recommend you wait until you’re out of the office before you watch this one.
