Slipknot Drummer Joey Jordison Reveals New Project: Scar The Martyr

With a new Slipknot album still alluding us, most of the boys from the metal outfit have been turning their attention to side projects and Joey Jordison is no different, with the drummer announcing his new band Scar The Martyr, who are set to release a full-length album later this year.

Scar The Martyr (try saying it five times fast) have been described as rock influenced by both industrial and post punk. Jordison plays not only drums on the yet-to-be-named album, but recorded the bass and rhythm guitar parts too. The rest of the band has a pretty impressive resume, with ex Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna on keyboard, former Strapping Young Lad guitarist Jed Simom, former Darkest Hour guitarist Kris Norris and vocalist and co-writer Henry Derek rounding out the roll call. That’s not a bad sounding supergroup right there.

Jordison said that the new band has given him a chance to really focus on songwriting. “I wasn’t worried about flash or persona. It’s all about writing a good solid song. I’m writing music that people can grasp and hold on to, something that resonates. If you don’t have that, then you have nothing.”

Scar The Martyr’s debut album will be produced by Rhys Fulber, who’s previously worked with Rob Zombie, Fear Factory and Mindless Self Indulgence, and it is expected to be released this spring.
