The hype surrounding the forthcoming album Hail To The King from Avenged Sevenfold continues to grow with each tid bit of information on the release the band provides and some new insight from vocalist M. Shadows proved to be no different. The beloved frontman has explained the band set their sights on a much bigger sound than previously, in an attempt to make an album that “slams from front to back.”
As bassist Johnny Christ explained to Music Feeds previously, Avenged shook things up with their writing process this time round, and M. Shadows’ comments back this up. The band traced their roots back in an effort to learn how songs were written in decades past in an attempt to simplify their sound.
“I was talking a lot to [Guitarist Synyster] Gates about it and it was one of those things were we decided ‘you know what? We want to get a better sounding recording, we want to make a bigger sound. So we had to strip things down and simplify and we started studying song writing everything from classical composers to some of our favourite bands, Zeppelin, Sabbath and Pantera all the bands that, you know, Pantera were influenced by, AC/DC and all that. So we started looking at songs and putting our own things together and looking at what worked and what we thought worked.”
The results began to speak for themselves and the band soon found some solid direction but the next challenge was to ensure they didn’t stray from the path and fall back into old habits:
“We decided to go with the most simplistic, bigger approach to our song writing so we said well, hold on, if we’re gonna go with this we can’t just do 3 or 4 songs and go back to our old ways, we have to stick this out all the way through and make sure these no filler on this record and this thing just slams from front to back.”
All signs seem to point to a deliberately awesome follow up to 2010’s Nightmare. You’ll be able to get your mitts around the new record Friday, 23rd August.
