Public Enemy Release New Single ‘Get Up Stand Up’ For Free On BitTorrent

Legendary hip hop group Public Enemy have released their latest single Get Up Stand Up, a collaboration with Minnesota rapper Brother Ali, using the digital file sharing service BitTorrent.

In a blog announcing the collaboration, BitTorrent explained that fans who input their email address can unlock a bundle including the song’s music video, studio outtakes and 37 multi-tracks for fans to remix. “Make your own Public Enemy mix, and if the group likes what they hear, they’ll release it digitally for you. Call it creative activism,” explained the blog.

The group has always been progressive both musically and when it’s come to getting their music to fans. In 2001 group-leader Chuck D had this to say about the rising prevalence of online file sharing: “The labels need to see that trying to fight MP3s is trying to shout at a thunderstorm, it’s going to happen, you’ve got to come up with ways adapt to it, and make it work for everybody.”
