Franz Ferdinand’s ‘Love Illumination’ Video Is Self-Consciously Odd

Scottish indie darlings Franz Ferdinand are back, with the quirky quintet unleashing the video for Love Illumination, the second single from their forthcoming fourth full-length effort, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action.

The video starts out pretty ordinarily – band members in suits, playing their instruments – but devolves into some David Lynch-esque weirdness with a cast of costumed dancers, animal masks and the band in a monochromatic room. Oh, and we’re also pretty sure we saw some boob in there too, just in case your boss is around.

This is more of what we expected when David Lynch actually directed Nine Inch Nails‘ recent single Came Back Haunted, though Love Illumination is actually the handiwork of Tim Saccenti.

The track, which had its official non-visual airing a few weeks ago, is the follow-up single to Right Action, which got its own ’60s-tinged video earlier this month, almost a remake of the clip for the band’s biggest hit, Take Me Out.

Franz Ferdinand will be bringing their glorious selves to Australia later in the year, playing Harvest Festival 2013 this Novemeber with Massive Attack, Primus and Goldfrapp. Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action is set to drop Down Under Friday, 23rd August.
