M.I.A. Threatens To Leak ‘Matangi’, Official Release Date Is Set

After a string of hold-ups, record company issues, and a threat from the lady herself to leak the album, the folks in British rapper M.I.A‘s camp have announced that Matangi, album number four for the artist, will be released on 4th November.

The 38-year-old had clearly been unhappy about delays at her label Interscope’s end, taking to Twitter to get the bad feelings off her chest, posting “Who would stop MATANGI from coming out?” She followed that one up with a thinly veiled threat: “If Interscope takes longer I can always leak this next week and make a new one by the time they are ready”.

The follow-up to 2010′s Maya was originally slated for release in late 2012 but was held up when the Paper Planes performer claimed her label thought the record was “too positive”:

“I thought I’d finished it. I finished it and then I handed the record in, like a couple of months ago. It’s like ‘We just built you up as the public enemy No. 1 and now you’re coming out with all this positive stuff.”

It was then pushed back to 31st January and then 15th April, but both dates came and went with no Matangi, so here’s hoping the new November release date is the real deal. In the meantime, tide yourself over with first single Bring The Noize and the new untitled track she debuted in Montreal last month.
