Phoenix To Announce Australian Tour Next Week?

Everybody’s favourite French guitar pop mavens Phoenix could be announcing their Australian tour plans as early as next week, if hints being dropped via tour promoter Live Nation‘s Twitter account are anything to go by.

About an hour ago, Live Nation Australia & NZ tweeted a mysterious black and white picture (below) of what appears to be a marching band along with the caption “BIG tour announced next week. Any guesses?? Here’s a clue… and NO it’s not these guys!”

A little Google handiwork shows that the picture is of the Phoenix Military Band of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, taken in 1910. “Phoenix”…”band”… That’s all we need to get this rumour train a-rollin’.

Live Nation have been handling Phoenix’s international touring duties since the band started the album cycle for their latest LP Bankrupt!, so it would make sense if they were to be taking care of Phoenix’s Australian tour as well.

Phoenix also previously stated that they would be touring Australia some time in the not-too-distant future, telling triple j‘s The Doctor earlier in the year that they’d be heading Down Under “either at the end of this year or very early 2014″. A tour announce next week would certainly hold to that timeframe.

If Phoenix are touring, we can almost definitely rule them out of the remaining summer festival lineups as well, which means no Big Day Out, no Falls Festival, no Harvest appearances for the lads. Fans will surely be grateful for any Aussie appearance, though, given the last time they toured here was back in early 2011 for Good Vibrations festival, with only one headlining show in Adelaide.

You can notch this up as a rumour for now, but we’re pretty confident that we’re on the money here. All will be revealed next week.
