The Killers To Release Three New Tracks On Greatest Hits Compilation?

The “big news” promised for Monday, 16th September by The Killers may have just lost the wind from its sails, with news spreading today that the band intends on releasing their greatest hits album, potentially within the next few months.

Recently, The Killers record label Island Def Jam posted an image of a page supposedly set to feature in the October 2013 edition of Vanity Fair , which is yet to hit shelves. The article (image below) features Killers singer Brandon Flowers talking about some of his current favourite tunes, but also casually mentions a Killers Greatest Hits album coming “this fall”, as though it’s already common knowledge. Nice. The image was very quickly removed…but you can’t hide these kind of things from the Internet, can you?

Rescued from the depths of obscurity by a fan-operated news site, the article suggests that the disc will also contain three new compositions. Little, if anything is known about these three tracks, though die-hard fans have begun suggesting one will be titled Shot At The Night (which the band hashtagged in a previous post).

M83’s Anthony Gonzalez previously revealed to NME that he and the band had recently teamed up, and there’s a strong possibilty this could be one of the new tracks. On the tone of his collaborations with the band, Gonzalez said:

“Some of it is sounding really cool. We can be guilty of making things so ornate, and sometimes that’s a bad thing. So I always have conversations with Brandon about working from a smaller palate, simplifying things. If these new tracks develop a theme, a common thread, then that could be the start of something.”

It’s not yet known whether the band will jump the gun on their scheduled announcement, or hold out until Monday, 16th September. Whether we just get the announcement, a new single, or both – we’ll have to wait and see.
