Summadayze Festival Likely To Be Cancelled

One of our most prominent summer festivals Summadayze is unlikely to make a return in the new year, say reports, as new management look to focus their attention on its older sister event Future Music Festival. The festival will most likely be put on the back burner for the foreseeable future as Mushroom Group find their footing in the EDM festival world.

As they attempt to inject new life into Future Music Festival, Mushroom’s Michael Gudinski and his team have crunched the numbers and were none too pleased with the results produced by Summadayze 2014. Unconvinced that the event is economically viable, Gudinski has explained that a future for Summadayze is doubtful:

“I’d heard there were difficulties after this year’s Summadayze but I didn’t really get a sense of the scale of it until we started due diligence, a couple of months ago…

“We’ve got a massive job ahead with the Future Music Festival. We want to make it a much better experience for the people who are going. We’re looking long term.”

Three companies associated with Summadayze – listed by Tone Deaf as Future Entertainment Pty Ltd – Music Events Holdings Pty Ltd, Music Events Tours Pty Ltd, and Music Events Operations Pty Ltd – have been declared insolvent following the festival’s poor performance dating back to 2012.

There will now be new blood in the ranks, with Matt Gudinski and EDM pioneer Brett Robinson championing the Future Music cause. Previous Future promoter Jason Ayoubi will be sticking around as a consultant, however partner Mark Condron (also known as Mark James) will have no part in the new plans.

Recently, the dates for Future Music Festival 2014 were locked in, revealing and expansion to the Asian leg of the festival despite the financial dramas. Another Future associated event, the under-18s festival Good Life, also recently revealed its plans to expand to more cities across Australia.
