Flume Pins Down “Australian Sound” In Shout Out To Pals

Sydney crown prince of EDM Flume has come out praising the Australian electronic music scene, taking to Facebook to tell fans how proud he is to be part of the burgeoning “Australian sound” and new wave of producers.

The 21-year-old made the post today, acknowledging that we’ve got some pretty special beatmakers coming out of our little isolated island right now:

“Just wanted to say how proud I am to be a part of Australian electronic music scene right now, and its not just me. I’ve been travelling the world for the past 6 months and I’m constantly getting asked in interviews about the “Australian sound” and this new wave of producers.

“I never thought much of it, being part of this new wave and all, but after this trip to the USA I’m starting to see it from an outsiders perspective. Australia, we’ve got something pretty special going on here, we’ve got our own sound, and the world’s starting to take notice.”

He went on to name check Melburnian crooner Chet Faker and Western Australian wonder Ta-Ku as “two big dogs leading the charge”, as well as shouting out L D R U, Kilter, Cosmo’s Midnight, Touch Sensitive, Hayden James, Wave Racer, Willow Beats, George Maple, Motez and Charles Murdoch. You can check out a playlist of all the tracks mentioned below.

Flume also suggested that Aussie EDM has the potential to take over the world “like the French did with electro back in ’06”, calling his fellow music makers to arms.

Flume, real name Harley Streten, has had an absolutely massive year, leading the nominations for this year’s Independent Music Awards, getting set to collaborate with hotter-than-hot indie popette Lorde and being announced on the 2014 Big Day Out bill in the last couple of months alone.
