Homebake Festival Moves To Opera House Steps For 2013

UPDATE: Homebake 2013 have officially announced their lineup, confirming the move plus some exciting new plans for this year – more details here!

The institutional Homebake Festival will reportedly be relocating to the Sydney Opera House steps for the 2013 event. This is a change for the festival, which famously features an all-Australian lineup, Blondie notwithstanding, normally held in The Domain, on the outskirts of Sydney CBD.

The news was leaked by Australian rock icon Tex Perkins, of seminal Aus-rock band Beasts of Bourbon and now The Ape, who confirmed the news in an interview with ABC Dig Music. Perkins implied that the news of the venue change was meant to be kept secret, saying:

“I’m going to announce that here. Beasts of Bourbon at Homebake, and Homebake will be performed on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. They probably don’t want me to announce that.”

The move to the Opera House Forecourt and its famed granite “Monumental Steps,” will likely mean a decreased capacity from previous years. The event had been held at The Domain since 2000, after making a move from the University of Sydney Grounds. Many musical events have been held on the Opera House steps, which were built to create a natural amphitheatre.

Music Feeds will have the full lineup and details on what the change of venue will mean for the festival as they come in.

UPDATE: The Homebake 2013 lineup has landed, and they’ve announced that they’re moving the festival to a three-day event!
