Brisbane four-piece The Cairos have released the powerful new video for their single Obsession off their upcoming debut album, due early 2014. To celebrate the release of the single, the band have announced a string of nationwide tour dates, which will see them sweeping the East Coast and visiting Adelaide, Perth and Darwin.
Obsession was recorded at Studios 301 in the beating musical heart of Byron Bay. Both the single and the album were produced and mixed by the esteemed Nick DiDia, who’s worked with such eminent Aus-rock institutions as Powderfinger and Karnivool, as well as alternative legends Rage Against The Machine.
The single is an opportunity for Cairos fans to get a hint of the LP’s direction. The culmination of 12 months of songsmithing, the band have delivered a dark, noisy and ethereal record, possessing shades of 80s shoegaze, 60s psychedelic and jagged post-punk.
The gritty, Dogme-style video for Obsession was directed by Sydney filmmaker Alex Ryan.
This October, The Cairos will also embark on their national tour, trekking across the great Australian expanse to visit Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and – a rarity for many bands – Darwin. Lucky things. First, though, they’ll be kicking off with a cheeky date at Cama Festival in Hanoi, Vietnam because why not?
