Tupac Shakur Biopic Gets The Green Light

Back in June, Music Feeds reported that the music of Tupac Shakur will be getting the Broadway treatment in a new musical. It’s now been revealed that the rapper himself will soon be immortalised, much like his rival The Notorious B.I.G. was, in an upcoming feature film biopic.

The long-awaited film is being produced by Morgan Creek Productions and Emmett Furla Films and executive produced by Tupac’s mother and former head of his estate, Afeni Shakur. The project starts principal photography in Atlanta, Georgia next year, leaving fans to wonder: who will take on the lead role?

No director is yet attached to the project, after Training Day director Antoine Fuqua, originally slated to direct, left the picture. Before removing himself from the project, Fuqua put out a casting call for the lead role online, which ultimately proved fruitless.

Tupac was last depicted on screen by actor Anthony Mackie, who portrayed the legendary rapper in the 2009 Biggie Smalls biopic Notorious, to little fanfare. In a move that would surely upset ‘pac fans the world over, there is talk of arguable rapper Soulja Boy taking on the role of a lifetime. The Chicago rapper was slated to reprise Tupac’s role of Bishop in US channel BET’s remake of the hood classic, Juice.
