Watch Part 2 Of Kanye West’s BBC Radio 1 Interview

Part two of Kanye West’s 60-minute long interview with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe has now surfaced online, and sees the rapper delve into topics such as classism and his creative aspirations.

Much like the first part of the interview, part two is rife with headline-worthy soundbites, and although West makes some profound statements, it’s clear by this stage in the interview he’s getting pretty riled up.

West provides an interesting recount of a conversation with renowned talent agent Ari Emanuel who at one point in West’s career attempted to restrict the rapper’s creative reach. West recalls Emanuel saying to him:

“‘You are a celebrity. So basically what’s going to happen is there’s product here, and this is where you end up right here. If you can communicate this product, you can make money off the product.'”

Clearly not agreeing with Emanuel’s advice, West commented to Lowe, “Look at [Lady] Gaga. She’s the creative director of Polaroid. I like some of the Gaga songs. What the fuck does she know about cameras?”

West also addressed the disparity between expectations of class and racial groups in the music world which influenced his latest album Yeezus, specifically the track I Am A God. He explained that expectations based on stereotypes played a vital role in the track’s reception, and his reception as its creator:

“When someone comes up and says, ‘I am a God,’ everybody says, ‘Who does he think he is?’ I just told you who I thought I was. A god,” he states. “Would it have been better if I had a song that said, ‘I’m a Gangster’ or if I had a song that said, ‘I’m a Pimp,’ all those colors fit better on a person like me, right?”

Pt. 3 and Pt. 4 are sure to be appear over the coming days and are sure to see West’s voice get even louder.
