Neutral Milk Hotel Play Their First Show In 15 Years

Neutral Milk Hotel famously disbanded in 1999 to chase the Thoreau dream of living life as wilderness-bound recluses after releasing a spate of beloved recordings. Back in April, the the band reformed, and now NMH have played their first show in 15 years at Baltimore’s St. John’s Church.

The group played a career-spanning set, featuring songs from their 1996 debut On Avery Island, their two EPs Everything Is and Ferris Wheel on Fire, and of course, the one that made everyone a fan, their highly-lauded 1998 sophomore LP, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.

At 90 minutes in lengths and lasting 18-songs, the band managed to squeeze in classics like Two-Headed Boy, Holland, 1945, King of Carrot Flowers, and Ferris Wheel On Fire. The set finished off with Engine from the Ferris Wheel on Fire EP, released in 2011.

Writing of the set, one fan noted that the band “kept the stage banter to a bare minimum,” opting instead to let the music speak for itself, with frontman and primary songwriter Jeff Magnum‘s voice as powerful and earnest as ever.

The band are set to tour Down Under with M. Ward and Superchunk next month. Those with tickets can get a peek at what they may be able to expect out of the set below, and can stay tuned to all news surrounding Harvest Festival 2013 Replacement Shows at our special Feed right here!
