Sydney-based instrumental band Meniscus have announced they will be re-releasing their debut EP Absence Of I ahead of their upcoming Australian and European tours.
The band’s 2007 debut will be repackaged with new artwork and a previously unreleased track that will also be made available for free download from May 4.
Absence of I brought Meniscus to global attention upon its release in 2007, earning comparisons to Isis, Tool and Mogwai. It proved particularly popular online and amongst European fans, with YouTube hits numbering in excess of 100,000 hits for the band’s tracks.
Since the departure of original drummer Duncan Wilson, the band has taken a slightly different direction with new drummer Cam Brennan and visual projectionist Marty Wong. Their 2011 debut album War Of Currents showcased the same intensity as their EP, but with heightened production and more of a cinematic tone. It hasn’t slowed them down – with over 40,000 downloads of their tracks online and airplay on stations including triple j (Aus), KOOP (US), PRO (PL) and more. Supports with Floating Me, Sleepmakeswaves and Dead Letter Circus have followed their own headline shows, which feature synchronised visual projections and a visceral live performance.
Meniscus will head out on the road in support of the re-release during May and June, before heading overseas to Europe, including performing at Germany’s Fusion Festival and supporting US post-metal outfit Rosetta in Poland.
