In a string of bizarre yet profound Instagram posts, Childish Gambino has laid it all out for his followers, explaining his decision to part ways with his long-running Community TV series. The slashie also explains the current situation with his super anticipated new album Because The Internet and how ‘the man’ is to blame for the delay.
Despite popular opinion, Gambeezy reveals he didn’t leave Community to have more time for his rap career, but rather to give himself the brain space needed to process the events of his life from the past 12 months. In one post, Gambino explained he “didn’t leave Community to rap, I don’t wanna rap. I wanted to be alone” expanding on this with:
“I’ve been sick this year. I’ve seen a lot of people die this year. This is the first time that I’ve felt helpless. But I’m not on that. Keep looking for something to be in with. Follow someone’s blueprint but you have to be on your own.”
Following a proverbial shopping list of his deepest fears and concerns, Gambino pulls it together for a second to explain the current situation with his new album. Originally suggested for a late 2013 release, Gambino says he was told to hold off by his label as Because The Internet “isn’t a holiday record and I’m not a big artist”.
However, having started the album last Christmas, the time of year was critical to how the artist wanted it to be received. “I want people to [hear] this album when everything’s closed. When everything slows down and quiet. When you can start over,” he wrote.
