Lana Del Rey Mopes About Second Album: “I Don’t Really Hear A Next One”

Brooding songstress Lana Del Rey is being something of a wet blanket when it comes to her oft-discussed second album, telling Nylon Magazine that the follow up to 2011’s Born To Die may actually never happen. Of course, it probably will, she’s just being Lana Del Rey.

Del Rey confessed that she truly doesn’t know if she’ll ever get around to penning new material, and if she does she has no idea what it will sound like. Fed up with the consistent questions about her next LP (how dare they?!), Del Rey tells Nylon:

“When people ask me about it, I just have to be honest – I really don’t know. I don’t want to say, ‘Yeah, definitely – the next one’s better than this one,’ because I don’t really hear a next one. My muse is very fickle. She only comes to me sometimes, which is annoying.”

It’s a story she’s stuck to for some time now, and understandable when you consider the drain that her upcoming short film Tropico must have been on the fickle ol’ muse. Del Rey, who famously dabbles in both film and fashion as well as music, previously described Tropico as her “farewell project.”

This may also explain why a number of previously unheard tracks were leaked online earlier this year. Her moody soundscapes and jilted bride persona were uncovered on a handful of tracks after a supposed hacker gained access to Del Rey’s personal hard drive, though some suspect this was a deliberate leak on behalf of the artist herself.
