A Perfect Circle guitarist and co-founder Billy Howerdel has revealed his desire to record a new APC album, citing singer Maynard James Keenan‘s work with his flagship project, Tool, as the primary road block in the way of a fourth studio album.
“I hope to, but I know, Maynard is in full Tool mode right now,” Howerdel told Rolling Stone. “They’re writing a new record, and I have given him some songs that maybe he’s going to look at, but I don’t know how he does with juggling those things at the same time.”
“I’d like to get an APC record underway,” he added. “But I don’t know – I’m just leaving it up to him and what his schedule allows. I’ll be there when he’s available.” APC recently announced that their upcoming best-of compilation will feature a newly recorded track, By and Down.
By and Down had previously been played during Tool’s live shows, but as Howerdel explained, when it came to the studio, there was difficulty in recording the track, saying:
“I thought you’d just throw it down, but studio recordings are just a different thing than live. It’s a different thing than rehearsal – especially for a band like this, where there are layers and textures involved. So that was a little more challenging than I thought.”
Back in September, Maynard James Keenan took to Instagram to assure fans that “music is happening on ALL fronts.” A Tool insider recently updated fans to confirm that the band was making “a lot of progress” on their new record.
