In a recent interview, Panic! At The Disco shot caller Brendon Urie has labelled Fiona Apple a “bitch” after she denied his request to use sample one of her latest tracks. Because how dare she.
Urie has explained that, prior to composing the band’s current single Miss Jackson as we know it, the band reached out to Apple in an attempt to borrow the creative flair found on her track Every Single Night, featured on her latest album The Idler Wheel…. Apple, however, was not vibing well with the idea, sending the I Write Sins Not Tragedies hitmakers packing.
As the buzz surrounding the band’s return plummets, Urie piped up on the issue, namedropping Apple in an interview with Revolt TV. Commenting on the shut down, Urie explained:
“The whole song was based around [the sample]. We used a part of her song and made that one of the hooks… We tried to get the publishing cleared. She was not having it, man. She was so bummed on us. She was like, ‘No, I’m not letting that band sell my stuff.’
“I was kind of hurt. I was like, ‘Really? I love your stuff, I love you Fiona.’ But then afterwards I was like, “You bitch. That sucks.” I was so mad. I’m still a huge fan of hers but I was pretty pissed.”
Not content with slagging her off, Urie then goes on to play the original track featuring the hook for the interviewer. You can watch that below.
