Hailing from Austin, Texas, indie folk-rockers Okkervil River are celebrating the release of their seventh and most recent studio album, the retro-tinged, The Silver Gymnasium, with an Australian tour. Here for Perth Festival 2014, the band have added dates in Melbourne and Sydney to their trip.
Inspired by frontman Will Sheff‘s life in his hometown of Meriden, New Hampshire circa 1986, The Silver Gymnasium — named after the gym at a boarding school Sheff attended — has gone on to receive widespread acclaim and secure the band’s highest US Billboard placing.
Following their appearance at the 2014 Perth Festival, the band will be kicking off a quick run of headlining sideshows at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on Friday, 21st February, before trekking down to Melbourne for a gig at the hallowed Corner Hotel on Friday, 21st February.
