Soundwave Second Lineup Announcement

The time for the long-awaited second Soundwave 2014 line up announcement has arrived. The first list of SW14 bands was an epic offering and now there’s a stack of internationals including Mastodon, A Day To Remember, HIM and more joining the already announced Suicide Silence, Defiler, I Call Fives, Zebrahead and Devil You Know.

The big news for Soundwave fans – while tonight’s additions may well be fantastic, it looks as though there’s room for a few more bands on the lineup, with main man AJ Maddah revealing that there will be a THIRD Soundwave lineup announcement in the coming months with more than a few internationals still to be added.

Since the first reveal, punters have been churning the rumour mill like an air raid siren, pestering Maddah with their incessant lineup questions. Several second announcement bands were leaked ahead of time, with the most recent being Northern Californian “lifecore” four-piece Defiler, who were unintentionally confirmed by the band’s vocalist on Twitter earlier today.

The new-look lineup of Suicide Silence self-confirmed their spot earlier this week via their Facebook page, with New Jersey pop-punk outfit I Call Fives‘ confirmation revealed after Maddah gave a Twitter follower the all-clear to make the announcement.

Late last month, Australia’s most powerful music industry mogul leaked US pop-punk outfit Zebrahead, much to his dismay, after informing a fan that first announcement confirmation Bowling For Soup would be embarking on a Sidewave “with Zebrahead and 1 or 2 others.”

Last week the hopes of Killswitch Engage fans were thrown a life raft after the official Soundwave Festival Twitter account announced that Killswitch vocalist Howard Jones‘ new project, Devil You Know are a go for the second lineup announcement.

Yesterday, reports emerged that Soundwave fans could be partying with the likes of Eagles Of Death Metal and Black Veil Brides, after a poster for New Zealand hard rock festival Westfest was supposedly leaked on Rob Zombie’s Twitter account, with the rest of the lineup composed of several key Soundwave acts.

Earlier this year, a draft lineup for the festival’s Metal Stage was posted by Megadeth on their official website, featuring names such as Swedish death metallers Entombed, Chicagoans SOiL, and Mudvayne spin-off Hellyeah, though the latter was subsequently denied by Maddah. SOiL seem to be the only survivor here.

After the unfortunate cancellation of this year’s Harvest Festival, Maddah speculated that some acts would be added to the SW14 lineup, with Primus and Mutemath being the obvious bands to consider. Primus are now nowhere to be found, and Mutemath are joined by another Harvest refugee, Desaparecidos.

An inebriated Maddah couldn’t quite recall if In Hearts Wake were set for SW or Warped Tour (they ain’t on Warped, so…), while one fan caught Maddah right in the middle of negotiating Jimmy Eat World.

“It just might. It just might,” was all Maddah would say when someone asked the promoter if the second announcement would make her “panic” (y’know, as in Panic! At The Disco).

Readers can check out the full line up for Soundwave 2014 below, as well as all dates, venue and ticketing details. The Soundwave tour kicks off at the RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane on Saturday, 22nd February, sweeping downward before making a hook for shows in Adelaide and Perth.
