Legendary Swedish deathcore pop group ABBA, who had one of their largest and most die hard fan bases here in Australia, have revealed that they are considering reuniting in 2014 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their famous Eurovision Song Contest win.
“Of course it’s something we’re thinking about,” the 63-year-old Agnetha Faltskog told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, as reported by ABC News. “There seem to be plans to do something to mark this anniversary in some way, but I can’t say at this point what will come of them.”
After forming in 1972, the group’s hit, Waterloo, won the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, catapulting them to superstardom and turning them into an instant global phenomenon. Since their informal dissolution in 1982, each member has pursued solo endeavours.
When the group appeared together at the Swedish premiere of the film Mamma Mia in 2008, the first time they had appeared together in public since 1986, there were calls for the foursome to reunite, to which the band responded that there was “simply no motivation to regroup.”
In her interview, Falkstog indicated she didn’t want to spend time thinking about a reunion, saying, “That eats up too much energy. Don’t just think about it, just do it,” and indicating that it would have to happen soon: “We’re all getting older. I can’t imagine going onto the stage on walking sticks.”
