Boogie 8 Lineup Announced

Going into their eighth instalment, the organisers of the young Boogie festival have quickly ingratiated themselves into the fabric of the Australian boutique festival market. Boogie 8 is their biggest event yet with appearances from Gary Clark Jr, Pond, Jason Isbell, and plenty more.

Extending their stay at Bruzzy’s Farm in the idyllic hills of Tallarook in central Victoria, Boogie 8 will be making good on the event’s reputation for “great tunes, top notch food, hand selected and affordable booze, free camping and train travel to and from Melbourne and good, good times.”

The lineup kicks off with a guitar giant, Mr. Gary Clark Jr. A formidable bluesman, Gary is known for his soulful blend of influences ranging from traditional blues and jazz to country and hip-hop. His extensive collaboration with top genre artists has led him to be labelled “the future of Texas blues.”

Some Aussie psychedelic flavour comes in the form of Western Australian five-piece, Pond. Their fifth studio album, Hobo Rocket, was released back in August through Modular, receiving wide acclaim for the band’s splendorous and far-reaching psych-rock sound.

American singer-songwriter and former member of alt-country stars Drive-By Truckers, Jason Isbell will be heading down for Boogie 8 on the heels of his fourth solo album, Southeastern. Jason is well-known for his powerful songwriting and equally powerful voice.

Vic Simms & The Halfway Allstars will be bringing an Aussie music folk hero to Boogie 8. Vic Simms hit the stage in 1957, hit the studio at age 15, hit the cell block years later and by the early 70s, Australia’s first ever album cut behind bars had been completed.

There’ll also be juke joint blues from Chris Russell’s Chicken Walk, Geelong garage rockers The Frowning Clouds, Canadian singer-songwriter Lindi Ortega, Sydney power punks Bed Wettin’ Bad Boys, Machine Translations, Bloods, Saint Jude, Batpiss, The Mastersons and many more.

There’ll also be plenty of other entertainment during the three days, including the raucous cardboard spectacular of Boxwars, which is exactly what it sounds like. The event is also BYO, with certain area restrictions applied. Check the official Boogie 8 website for full details.

Taking place over the Easter Long Weekend, Boogie 8 is sure to deliver on its promise of good vibes and great tunes. Tickets go on sale 9:00am this Thursday, 21st November from the Boogie 8 website, Greville Records, and Polyester Records in the City and Fitzroy.
