Dave Grohl On New Foo Fighters Album: ‘We’re Doing It In A Way No One’s Done Before’

Ahead of his appearance at the American Music Awards to present the ‘Alternative Rock Artist’ award with Joan Jett, Foo Fighters mastermind Dave Grohl took some time to gush about his band’s next LP, telling interviewers, “We’re doing it in a way that no one’s done before.”

“It’s badass,” Grohl told Rolling Stone. “We’re doing something that nobody knows about, it’s fucking rad. We begin recording soon, but we’re doing it in a way that no one’s done before and we’re writing the album in a way that I don’t think has been done before.”

Grohl famously decided to defy convention for the recording of Foo Fighters’ 2011 album, Wasting Light, which was recorded entirely in Grohl’s garage in Encino, California, to tape, using only analog equipment. This saw the band undertake a relentless rehearsal schedule prior to recording.

Asked about the band’s upcoming show in Mexico City and how long it’s been since the band took stage, Grohl said, “Like a year and a half, the first rehearsal. I don’t know if you saw the picture, but there was blood,” referencing a picture posted to the Foo Fighters Facebook of a bloodied guitar.
